Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?

Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to improve your smile and boost your confidence. These advanced devices look just like natural teeth, and they can be used to mask countless imperfections ranging from chip and cracks to severe stains. Applying custom veneers requires very little time, and you should enjoy your beautiful new smile for years as long as you maintain impeccable oral hygiene habits.

A veneer is nothing more than a thin strip of porcelain that is carefully fixed to the front of a patient’s tooth by a cosmetic dentist. The primary purpose of these devices is to improve the appearance of one’s smile, but they also protect your teeth from additional damage. This treatment may require two separate appointments, and those appointments are generally scheduled one or two weeks apart. When you first arrive at our office, one of our team members will carefully inspect your teeth and gums for any serious oral health issues. Veneers are incredibly durable, but they might not be a good option if you have periodontal disease or severe tooth decay.

The next step in this process is carefully cleaning and preparing the teeth. A microscopic layer of each tooth must be removed in order to make room for the overlay, and that means this procedure is not reversible. That being said, modern veneers often last for well over 15 years as long as the patient takes care of their oral health. Once the teeth are cleaned and prepped, our team will then take impressions of the teeth as well as multiple images.

After your custom porcelain veneers have been made, you can schedule your final appointment with our dental team. Each veneer is held in place with a powerful bonding agent, and that agent is cured with a special light. Following the procedure, you must follow all of our aftercare instructions. That includes steering clear of hard or chewy foods until the bonding agent has fully cured.

Porcelain veneers can be used to treat almost any cosmetic imperfection that you are struggling with. Many of our patients decide to undergo this procedure because they aren’t happy with the size or shape of their teeth. With multiple veneers, we can give you a uniform smile that doesn’t have any major gaps. These devices can also be used to cover blemishes such as dental fractures, chipped teeth, and deep stains. The overlays look exactly like healthy teeth, and you can care for them just as if they were your natural teeth.
