Veneers
Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain that fit on teeth. They are tough, durable, long lasting, look very natural, and are very easy to take care of. Many patients only get one or two veneers, but you can get them for even more teeth if necessary. They can cover up imperfections, such as gaps, discoloration that can’t be removed, and misshapen teeth, with very little alteration needed to your teeth. However, it is important that the tooth that is being covered is healthy – any cracks or decay will have to be fixed before veneers can be used.
Crowns
Crowns are caps that fit over teeth. They are typically used to save teeth that are very damaged, such as a tooth with a large crack or a tooth with severe decay. They look very natural and are easy to take care of. Crowns can save teeth from having to be removed, and they serve an important purpose for a healthy mouth, but they can also be used to fill in gaps between teeth. Unlike veneers, there may be some significant modification required for your tooth before you can get a crown. However, once crowns are placed they last for a long time, and they look very natural.
Cosmetic bonding
If you are concerned about gaps, your dentist may offer cosmetic bonding as a solution. Composite resin is bonded to the teeth to close up the gap. This can be done without modifying the tooth in any way, and it can even be made to match the color of your teeth so it looks very natural. It can last for up to 5 years or more and can be removed in the future if need be.
