The gas causes you to relax. The dentist has complete control over how much sedation you feel. The benefit of nitrous oxide is that it wears off very fast.
Oral sedation is where you’re given sedation in the form of a pill. The pill should make you feel sleepy, but you’ll still be awake. The larger the dose, the more sedated you will be. IV sedation is yet another form of sedation dentistry.
